Do You Or Someone You Care About Suffer With Eczema?

Dermatologists are often reported as saying Australia has one of the highest incidences of eczema in the world. The Eczema Association of Australasia (EAA) says one in three Australians will suffer the effects of eczema at some stage in their lives.

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a recurring, non-infectious, inflammatory skin condition. The condition is most common in people with a family history of an atopic disorder, including asthma or hay fever.

Although eczema is itself not a life-threatening disease, it can have a debilitating effect on a sufferer’s quality of life, and that of their family. Night-time itching leads to sleepless nights and supporting a child suffering with eczema can increase emotional pressure in a household. According to the EAA, eczema 'flare-ups' can often lead to absenteeism from work, school, personal activities and other responsibilities. For some severe sufferers it can also mean hospitalisations and costly treatments.

Comvita® has worked with expert clinicians to develop a system of independently certified natural products to bring relief to eczema sufferers and their families.

The Comvita® Medihoney® range is formulated using the key ingredient antibacterial medical grade honey, which has been clinically proven to support skin healing. This is the same ingredient used in professional skin products in hospitals all around the world.

September 8 to 14 is Eczema Awareness Week, which aims to raise awareness of the EAA and all the places that eczema sufferers and their families can go to get more information, friendly advice and support. For more information visit www.eczema.org.au
