What Is Propolis?
If you browse through our wide collection of products, you will notice the word Propolis included in the description of many. Propolis is one of the main ingredients we use for a number of healthcare supplements.
Many of us like to know exactly what it is that we’re introducing to our bodies. If you’re unsure as to what Propolis is – here is a brief overview.
WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
The substance of Propolis comes in two different forms – both of which are produced by bees.
In the first instance, the bees collect resins that are found in various types of plant life (bark, leaves, sap flows). This, combined with their enzymes, allows for the creation of Propolis.
The second form, which is considered to have greater benefits, is made through the hard casings of bee pollens.
PROPOLIS FOR BEES
Scientists theorised that it may have health advantages by studying how bees use Propolis. For one thing, it can improve the structure of a beehive by closing cracks and openings that may have appeared.
Propolis has great benefits for the beehive’s environment. For example, bees will use it to cover the body of a small animal (such as a mouse) that may have found its way into the beehive.
PROPOLIS FOR PEOPLE
There are properties within Propolis that have a positive effect on the human body, and the fact that it is all natural is an additional advantage. Propolis can assist with immune support and act as an antioxidant, which helps with your general wellbeing.
It is also effective in dental hygiene. Mouth sours and ulcers can be soothed when introduced to Propolis.
Despite all of this, the amount of research conducted on propolis is not overly extensive. There is still a lot that can be done to research the effects of propolis, as well as the intricacies into how it functions.
At Comvita, we have a wide variety of products that contain Propolis as an ingredient. From oral care to cold relief and children’s health, you’ll find the ingredients to help you live a healthy and happy life.
