The complex interaction between bees and their environment teaches us how precious nature really is. Watching the bees (and Jono!) at work in our video ‘A Day With Jono’, reminds us how essential nature is for our wellbing. Jono is one of our dedicated beekeepers, whose infectious passion and enthusiasm for his job shines through in this look into his world.
Manuka honey is one of nature's special gifts and is recognised and in demand worldwide for its unique properties that are not found in ordinary honey.
Sourced from some of New Zealand’s most pure and remote locations, it is renowned for its unique properties, flavour and nutritional profile, with extra amino acids, vitamins and high antioxidant properties. From New Zealand’s rugged central North Island volcanic plateau, to the bush clad hills of Northland, there are many factors that can affect the quality of Manuka honey - it’s a natural product so the sun, wind and rain all play a part.
Honey bees begin collecting nectar from the delicate Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) flower in the early summer, storing it in the hive to ripen over time. Our beekeepers are some of the best in the business, using their extensive knowledge of the environment and superior beekeeping practices. A high-quality yield is produced from each and every harvest to satisfy Comvita’s requirements as the largest Manuka honey supplier in the world.
Our beekeepers are not only experts in the honey crop, but also in the Comvita quality system and understand that only the best honey will make the Comvita Honey quality grade. All Comvita UMF® Manuka Honey is strictly monitored at all phases of collection through to bottling, and is traceable to its source - from the hive to the shelf. We work closely with our bees and beekeepers to produce UMF® Manuka Honey of the highest quality, bottling the benefits with your wellbeing in mind.
No other company knows Manuka honey like Comvita.
WAYS TO USE MANUKA HONEY
Manuka honey has much higher levels of methylglyoxal than other honeys and is considered ‘active’, as it doesn’t lose potency when exposed to external elements including heat or light. Comvita UMF® Manuka Honey can be beneficial to your health whether you enjoy it off the spoon, in a smoothie or in a cup of tea.
Comvita’s Winter Wellness range of products contains UMF® 10+ Manuka Honey. This means that taking Manuka honey infused lozenges or lollipops at wintertime can help soothe a sore throat. We also have Manuka honey available in oral spray and elixir, so you can access the benefits of Manuka honey in a variety of easy-to-take forms, for even the fussiest members of your family.
Not all honey labeled as Manuka honey contains significant levels of the unique properties. The UMF® symbol that can be seen on the label of Comvita Manuka Honey is much more than just a rating of the strength of the honey. UMF® stands for ‘Unique Manuka Factor’ and the UMF® grading system appraises natural markers found in Manuka honey, and assures purity & quality. UMF® is the registered name and trademark of the UMF® Honey Association and can be used only by licensed users meeting strict criteria including quality monitoring and auditing.
All batches of Comvita Manuka Honey are tested for purity and strength not only in our own laboratories, but also independently. Using the UMF® over other rating systems means all honey is tested using internationally recognized testing and verification methods to ensure product quality and traceability.
Using the UMF® Honey Association grading system assures purity and quality, ensuring that the product has provenance and is a natural product from the hive. This means that you, our valued customer, can be certain that you are getting what you paid for.
Please see www.umf.org.nz for further information on the grading system and UMF® quality mark. Comvita is license holder 1019.
