What is UMF™ Mānuka Honey

UMF® stands for ‘Unique Manuka Factor’ and the UMF® grading system appraises natural markers found in Manuka honey, and assures purity & quality. UMF® is the registered name and trademark of the UMF® Honey Association and can be used only by licensed users meeting strict criteria including quality monitoring and auditing.

All batches of Comvita Manuka Honey are tested for purity and strength not only in our own laboratories, but also independently. The UMF® Honey Association also employs the services of an independent auditor to randomly check samples in the marketplace. Using the UMF® over other rating systems means all honey is tested using internationally recognized testing and verification methods to ensure –

  • Full product traceability to verify the label claim that it is Manuka.
  • The number represents true levels of Methylglyoxal, DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and Leptosperin.
  • The levels of HMF (HydroxyMethylFurfural). Increased levels may indicate adulteration and heat and storage changes of the honey.
  • There is no addition of Methylglyoxal and DHA, resulting in an artificially increased rating.

Using the UMF® Honey Association grading system assures purity and quality, ensuring that the product has provenance and is a natural product from the hive. This means that you, our valued customer, can be certain that you are getting what you paid for.

Please see www.umf.org.nz for further information on the grading system and UMF® quality mark. Comvita is license holder 1019
